Recognizing the lack of commentary online by geeks, Michael Sherrin is attempting to fill the tragic void with Prodigeek. Geek prodigies (hence, Prodigeek) read Prodigeek for its pairing of intelligence with pop culture. It’s a challenge Michael Sherrin pretends to be qualified to undertake. Sherrin began Prodigeek in September of 2006 to give a permanent home to his opinions and rants. Topics range from video games to politics to comic books, contributing another voice in the quiet of the blogosphere.
Prodigeek stands out as a resource for commentary on geek culture, tracking the evolution of new media, popular culture, and Spider-Man with a fun-loving academic flare.
Prodigeek is designed and maintained by Michael Sherrin using the Wordpress blogging software. He is also in charge of writing and editing content, moderating comments, marketing, financials, and frankly, he does just about everything. He doesn’t get out much.
About Michael Sherrin
Michael Sherrin began his career in self-promotion when he started an online comic book club at age ten. He learned web design to provide infrequent updates to his non-existent readers, creating dozens of comic book websites. As a result, Michael did not have sex until college. Michael attended Emerson College, graduating with a degree in magazine writing in 2006. He has worked as a web developer for several media companies and start-ups including Boston.com, Smart Bargains, Blue Egg, and Gather Inc.
This fall, Michael will attend University of Chicago studying for a masters in new media studies, thinking a graduate degree will get him respect.
Michael wears his geek title as a badge of his individuality, creativity, and virginity, proud of his uncontrolled collecting and non-stop internet usage. Michael Sherrin has published more than 100 articles in moderately read publications like Boston.com, Out Magazine, and Wizard Magazine. Sometimes he was even paid for his work. Michael does Prodigeek for free, but hopes to sell-out someday. Maybe then he can get a date.
