Lost landed in our hearts and minds with a crash. The shocking premiere unleashed a treasure trove of mysteries inspiring a whole new form of addictive, serialized television. Lost has been unapologetically obtuse, complex, and insulting to anyone who doesn’t study the show’s mythology 24/7 and yet and turned its eccentricities into endearing quirks that only make the show more addictive and lovable. The complex characters, rich mysteries, and detailed science, from the numbers to the flashbacks, every second of Lost is pop culture gold to be over analyzed, memorized, and cherished.

The only thing worse than licensed movie games are licensed TV show games. But rare gems have shown licensed games can sometimes be moderately enjoyable. The Lost game, in theory, has the potential to be one of those mediocre games. When the game comes out next week, think about how cool the game might have been if some of these ideas were included.
7. Social interaction with other characters
It’s like the Sims with guns and betrayal. The survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 have to team up, back stab, and hook up to survive (and entertain). Let players interact with other characters, trading equipment, offering compliments, lying, etc. with diverse dialogue trees.
6. Stealth and survival over gunplay and combat
There’s a limited amount of bullets and guns on the island, but no shortage of enemies. So lets seem some quality stealth missions, strategic uses of weapons (shooting exploding barrels is a helpful cliche), and let’s even throw in a cover system - hiding behind trees, logs, and maybe a hatch or two.

Lost has many mysteries, but the numbers take the top prize. The seemingly random list of numbers, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42, have been featured throughout the series as lottery numbers, passwords to save the world, seat assignments on the plane, and mysteriously written out on the equally mysterious hatch. So much of Lost’s mythology seems to tie into these curse numbers, with clues linking the numbers to the Valenzetti Equation, the equation predicting the end of humanity. Yet that hasn’t stopped pop culture from embracing the mystery, from the growing variety of off-the-island references (it’s Catwoman’s prison number) to thousands of people using the numbers to win the lottery themselves. Seems the curse won’t scare people away from millions of dollars. Or maybe that’s just what the numbers want us to think…

Wikipedia has been a great tool for geeks to finally write down all the crap we used to have to remember. And now we can share that knowledge with the world wide web. Wikipedia allows anyone to not only edit articles, but to start their own speciality encyclopedias. This list ranks the geekiest, most complete wikia dedicated to the topics geeks care most about. It’s not simply which site has the most articles, but how deep into the subject did it take to find that many articles. And how geeky those articles are. That counts.
7. Transformers Wiki
Want to know how more than meets the eye the Transformers really were? Check out the Transformers Wikia. There are more than 5,500 articles to transform your thinking about giant robots, from the comics to the cartoons to the movies, in every generation of the series.
6. Doctor Who Wiki
The fan community of the longest running sci-fi series have written more than 7,600 articles about the ten different Doctors and all his enemies and friends. It’s like time travel without the motion sickness.

To best sum up 2007, I have combed the entertainment world to find these seven highlights that brought joy to my heart and hokey crap like that. These are the must-see movies, comics, shows, and events that every geek needs to enjoy before tackling anything in 2008.
7. Buffy Season 8
While television spin-offs remain in development limbo, the comic book world welcomed Joss Whedon with open arms. Whedon continues the adventures of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in comic book form, an unheard of use of cross media storytelling. Buffy Season 8, published by Dark Horse Comics, features Whedon and other top writers telling the stories that might have appeared on the TV screen had Buffy continued - and if Whedon had an unlimited budget. The experiment is far from over, and the first bunch of issues have yet to shock and awe in the same way the show did, but the punchy dialogue and quick wit makes this a must read because there’s nothing else like it.
6. Bioshock
If all the awards and rave reviews haven’t convinced you Bioshock is as good as the Second Coming, than you don’t deserve to wear the geek moniker. This art deco romp through philosophical mind games is one of the most unforgettable video game experiences around. The unique gameplay and soon-to-be classic Big Daddies only lays the foundation to a brilliant story filled with plot twists that affect how you view playing the video game.

IGN.com has ranked the Top 50 Lost Loose Ends, from the meaning of the numbers to the four-toed statue. With a three month break until season three continues, reading this massive list makes the two year investment in Lost depressing. How many loose ends has Lost answered? The few answers we’ve gotten are only partial and lead to more loose ends. This list helps by offering theories for each loose end, more than we get from the actual show.
Of course, I still can’t wait for February. All-new episodes. Maybe something will happen in one of them.
